Cluckin’ A
Cluckin’ A, formed in 2005, consists of AC Bushnell-fiddle, Terry Burtyk-banjo, Zack Mondry-bass and Charley Pennell-guitar.
AC met Terry Burtyk in 2004 when she was recovering from cancer (little did AC know he would get cancer himself two years later). AC absolutely loved her banjo playing. He wanted to play with her but desired a full string band sound. The idea of having another band with its own sound grew on him, but he had to find the right people to play guitar and bass.
One night he went to The Blue Bayou in Hillsborough, NC and heard Zack Mondry play the second half of one song on bass. He immediately knew this was the bass player he wanted and asked Zack if he would like to join this group.
AC had heard Charley Pennell play fiddle and mandolin at old-time jams. One night he went to a jam in Chapel Hill and was sitting next to Pennell when Charley put down his fiddle and played guitar for a couple of songs. AC was entranced with his guitar work and knew this was the guitar player he wanted. After the jam AC asked Charley if he wanted to join the group.
Cluckin’ A plays public and private events. They have no CD yet but can be heard on the “Dancing on the Water” CD/DVD playing on “All My Tears” (click here to listen) and “John Henry’s Happy Day”. Cluckin’ A can also be heard playing some of the transitional music between the tracks of the “Dancing on the Water” CD/DVD. To hear samples from this CD click here.
